President Joko Widodo inaugurates his cabinet ministers

JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – President Joko Widodo on Monday (Oct 27) inaugurates his 34 cabinet ministers, which he called the Working Cabinet, at the State Palace.

The inauguration was also attended by top leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR), People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Regional Development Council (DPD). After the inauguration, the ministers, who are all wearing Indonesian traditional batic cloth, will attend the first cabinet meeting this afternoon.

The inauguration was broadcast live by a number of private televisions.

On Sunday afternoon, President Joko Widodo announced the list of his cabinet ministers, who are mixed of politicians, businessman and technocrats.

The selection of ministers was responded with mixed reaction in the public and business community. Some hailed the selection process as the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla government involved the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as well as the Indonesia Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center. A KPK senior official has said that the ministers are all clear from corruption cases.

President Joko Widodo broke some records including appointing 8 women in the cabinet, including the first woman who holds the Foreign Minister post, i.e. Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi.

President Joko Widodo also formed a new post, namely Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, which is held by Indroyono Susilo. The coordinating ministry will coordinate few ministries, including the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) and Ocean and Fishery Ministry.  (*)
