Amman Mineral to appoint Japanese contractors as EPC for its smelter plant

JAKARTA (RambuEnergy.com) – PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), previously known as Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT), will appoint contractors from Japan and Canada, given their experience, to carry out the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the company’s smelter plant.

The company plans to develop smelter plant on Sumbawa Island in the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), with a target to come onstream in 2021. The decision to build smelter plant domestically is a mandatory in line with the applicable regulation that requires ores to process in the country.

AMNT project coordinator Lukman Mahfoedz told reporters on Wednesday that at present AMNT is seeking contractor to work on the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) as well as EPC, with a hope that this process can be completed by Nov. 30 this year.

The company has shortlisted three major contractors as the preferred winner, two from Japan and one from Canada. The three is preparing the FEED. If the process goes smoothly the company hopes to begin the construction in August next year.

The company expects the smelter to have a capacity to produce 2×1 million tons of copper.

The company said the project will be funded through project financing scheme. (*)
