JAKARTA (RambuEnergy.com) – State eletricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has unveiled its medium-to-long term plan to develop at least four medium-to-large size floating storage regasification unit (FSRUs) and tens of mini FSRUs and mini LNG plants to support the company’s planned development of gas power plants across the country.
The number of FSRUs would be more than originally planned. Initially, the company only planned to develop three FSRUs, located in northern part of Sumatera, Muara Tawar in the outskirt of Jakarta and Gorontalo in Sulawesi island.
Director for Procurement Strategic 2 of PLN Supangkat Iwan Santoso said PLN plans to develop a total of 50 FSRUs from large to mini FSRUs. The FSRUs will support the gas power plants. For instance, FSRU Belawan in northern Sumatera will be used to support gas supply to gas power plant Sumut 3.
“FSRUs will also be built in Bangka Belitung, Pontianak and many more. There could around 50 units, mini LNG plant, mini FSRUs,” said Iwan, as quoted by Kontan daily.
He said mini FSRUs will receive gas from mini LNG plants or LNG hubs. From mini FSRUs, gas will be distributed through small vessels.
PLN said it will receive gas from Tangguh LNG Plant Train 3 as well as Bontang LNG plant. The development of FSRUs and mini LNG plants is aimed to support the government’s drive to meet energy mixed target for 2025, in which gas utilization will contribut 25% of the national energy mixed.
Iwan said PLN needs funds around US$210 million to build one large FSRU and US$50 million to develop mini FSRU.
PLN also hopes to get gas from Donggi Senoro LNG plant, operated by Medco and its Japanese partners.
