JAKARTA ( – Arcandra Tahar is speculated to be reappointed as Indonesia’s Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) after the government reinstating his Indonesian citizenship again.

Arcandra was dismissed by President Joko Widodo after holding the position as the energy ministry for 20 days following public protest that he has dual citizenship as he holds two passports, Indonesia and US.

Arcandra has been living in the US for 20 years and called by the President to help his government in tackling energy and mining sectors.

Early this week, Arcandra’s status was reinstated and formally regained his Indonesian citizenship. President Joko Widodo is scheduled to summon Arcandra today.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Arcandra, born in Padang, West Sumatera is an Indonesian. Whether he is to be reappointed as Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, will depend on the President. “The President will answer that question, not me,” Jusuf Kalla told reporters when asked whether Arcandra will be reappointed as the energy minister.

VP Jusuf Kalla said Arcandra Tahar still has a good chance to be reappointed as energy minister. (*)
