Pertamina, PLN sign LNG sales and purchase agreement

JAKARTA ( – State energy company PT Pertamina and state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has signed sales and purchase agreement for LNG.

Based on the agreement, Pertamina will supply LNG to PLN’s power plants in Bali.

The signing agreement was witnessed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said.

VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina Wiadna Pusponegoro said the agreement shows a stronger coopration between two state energy companies in providing gas supply to Bali. “This is a strategic move to support the converstion of fuel to gas consumption in Bali,” she said.

Under the deal, Pertamina will supply one cargoe of LNG or equals to 125,000 cubic meters to Bali, utilizing Surya Satsuma vessel, which has capacity to transport 22,500 cubic meters of LNG. The vessel will ship the LNG six times.

The LNG will be supplied from Bontang LNG Plant. The LNG will be regasified at LNG receiving terminals operated by PLN and Pelindo III. The gas will then be supplied to Pesanggaran Power gas power plant.

In December last year,  PT Humpuss Intermoda Tbk (HITS), a shipping firm, through its subsidiary PT Humpuss Transportasi Kimia signed a a contract with PT Pelindo Energi Logistic, a subsidiary of state owned port operator PT Pelindo III to deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Bontang in East Kalimantan to PLN’s power plant in Bali.

President Director of Humpuss Intermoda Theo Lekatompessy said its subsidiary will transport LNG to Benoa Power Plant in Bali. The LNG will be regasified at an LNG receiving terminal in Tanjung Benoa, near the power plant before gas is delivered to the power plant. The LNG terminal is being constructed on a plot of land owned by state-owned port operator PT Pelindo III.

“This agreement will provide fixed recurring income for the company in the next seven years,” Theo said after the signing agreement.

Theo said Humpuss Transportasi Kimia will use LNG Carrier Triputra, formerly known as Surya Satsuma, which previously used by Humpuss to transport LNG from Bontang LNG plant to Japan LNG buyers.

The LNG carrier has capacity of 20,000 dead weight tons (DWT), which is categorized as medium-sized LNG carrier.

Theo said Humpuss has justed acquired 51 percent stakes of the LNG carrier for an undisclosed amount, while the remaining shares are owned by three partners, namely namely LNG Japan, Pertamina Tokyo and MOL or Mitsui Overseas Line.

The vessel has been used by Humpuss over the past 15 years. (*)
