PLN, UPC Renewables sign agreement to develop 350 MW capacity of wind power

JAKARTA ( – State electricity company PT PLN has signed an agreement UPC Renewables of US to develop a 350 MW of wind farms within three years (2015-2018) with total investment of US$850 million, said a statement issued by the President’s communication team.

The agreements are part of deals worth a total of US$20 billion signed during President Joko Widodo’s visit to the US. The statement did not say where the wind power plants will be developed.

UPC Renewables is currently developing wind farms in various parts of Indonesia in partnership with local partner PT Binatek Energi Terbarukan.

Currently, they are developing over 1,500 MW of world class wind farms across Indonesia. Binatek and UPC will be using the newest wind turbine technology and are committed to supplying clean wind power in Indonesia at the best price possible in a socially responsible way.

In May, 2015, the two companies signed the Samas 50MW Wind Farm Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PT PLN (Persero) that was the first PPA for a utility scale wind farm to be signed in Indonesia. The Samas 50MW Wind Farm in Bantul, Central Java is scheduled for groundbreaking in 2016 and will be in Operation in 2017.

On August 19th, the partners executed the second PPA with PLN for the Sidrap 70MW Wind Farm in Sidrap, South Sulawesi and expected to start construction in late 2015 and be in operation in 2017.

UPC formed companies have developed more than 2,000 MW of operating wind and solar projects in Indonesia with an investment value of over US$3 billion, and have a development pipeline of more than 5,000 MW. (*)
