Kalla Group postpones plan to develop shipyard due to economic slowdown

JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – Kalla Group through its subsidiary PT Bumi Lintas Tama has decided to postpone the development of shipyard to next year amid slowing down of economy.

Muhammad Naim, General Manager of PT Bumi Lintas Tama said the planned development of shipyard is driven by increasing demand for vessels in Sulawesi island.

The company plans to cooperate with Tsuneishi Shipbuildin Co. Ltd of Japan in entering the shipbuilding business, Kontan daily reported.

Currently, both parties are conducting feasibility study. Naim said he expects to start the construction of the shipyard next year.

The company plans to construct a shipyard on 100 hectares of land in Pinrang, South Sulawesi. Around 10 percent of the land has been cleared. the company plans to build 8-10 vessels per month or 70-80 vessels per year. (*)
