Dubai Port interested to develop Bagansiapi-api port in Riau

JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – Dubai Port in the United Arab Emirates has expressed interest to develop Bagansiapi-api port in Riau Island, a company official said.

“We will carry out a survey what is the leading edges of the location. We will also study what are supporting industries that can be developed there,” Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said after accompanying the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, as reported by Kompas daily.

The President is on state visit to Middle East Countries, including Saudi Arabia, Uni Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Dubai Port is one of the largest port in the Middle East. It is hub port that connects Middle East with other parts of the world. Earlier, Dubai Port has been cooperating with an Indonesian port operator to develop container port in Surabaya. President Joko Widodo wants such cooperation to also be applied in developing the Bagansiapi-api port.

During his Middle East visit, President Widodo also invited investors to invest in Indonesia, including Emirates Global Aluminium. Abdulla JM Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium said his company will realize the plan.

“We have Asahan and we have bauxite deposits, cilica sand, nickel and other minerals that we can develop (jointly) like this,” President Joko Widodo said when visiting Dubai Aluminium plant in Dubai on Monday (Sept 14).  (*)
