Pertamina tanker vessel explodes in Belawan Port while being repaired, 3 workers killed

JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – A tanker vessel owned by state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina exploded at Belawan port, Medan, North Sumatera, killing three workers.

A local news website Batamnews.co.id reported that the explosion happened while the tanker vessel was being repaired at a Pertamina’s dockyard in Belawan Port.

“Three workers have been killed due to the explosion. We received report three hours after the accident,” the head of local police chief in Belawan Port, AKBP Aswin Sipayung said.

The three workers are Minarto (33), Suharto (50) and Martin (35). Their bodies have been transferred to a hospital in Medan.

The External Relations of PT Pertamina Marketing Operation Region I, Brasto Galih Nugroho has confirmed the accident. “That’s true, the tanker is owned by Pertamina. The vessel was still being repaired by a partner company,” he said.

Pertamina has yet to reveal the cause of the accident. (*)
