JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina, is considering to distribute liquefied natural gas (LNG) by utilizing LNG trucks and LNG small carriers to distribute the product to remote areas that are not linked with gas pipelines.
President Director of Pertagas Hendra Jaya said the LNG trucks and carriers would be used to distribute LNG to, among others, small-scale power plants owned by state owned electricity company PT PLN. These include small power plants in Aceh and North Sumatera.
“We already have the facilities and can distribute LNG with small LNG carrier or LNG trucks. We have done that in Bontang (East Kalimantan). We can just duplicate (the trucks),” Hendra Jaya was quoted by bisnis.com as saying.
He noted the LNG can be taken from its newly-modified Arun LNG Regasification and Receiving Terminal in Aceh. Pertagas, he said, can widen its market by distributing LNG with small LNG carriers. The Arun LNG terminal has storage capacity of 12 million tons of LNG per annum.
President Joko Widodo on Monday (March 9) inaugurated the commercial operation of the Arun LNG regasification facility. The facilities, which was previously owned by ExxonMobil, was modified to become an LNG regasification and receiving terminal by Pertamina. (*)
