Indonesia energy ministry says 17 oil-gas contracts will expire by 2019

JAKARTA ( – The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) said that as many as 17 oil and gas production sharing contracts (PSCs) will expire by end 2019. Two of those, namely Gebang Block and offshore North West Jawa have just been extended by the government on Dec. 23, 2014.

Under the existing regulation, the operators of the blocks may submit request to extend the operatorship rights as early as 10 years before the contracts expire. However, in many cases, it is the government that delays making decision and often waits until the last minutes.

Oil and gas companies are hoping the government can make decision as earlier as possible so that they can make plans in advance.

The seventeen oil and gas PSCs are as follows:

1.       Gebang Block will expire in 2015)

2.       Offshore North West Java will expire in 2017

3.       Lematang Blok will expire in 2017

4.       Warim will expire in 2017

5.       Mahakam Block will expire in 2017

6.       Attaka will expire in 2017

7.       Tuban will expire in 2018

8.       Ogan Komering will expire in 2018

9.       Sanga-sanga Block will expire in 2018

10.   Southeast Sumatra will expire in 2018

11.   B Block will expire in 2018

12.   NSO/NSO Ext will expire in 2018

13.   Tengah Block will expire in 2018

14.   East Kalimantan will expire in 2018)

15.   Pendopo and Raja will expire in 2019

16.   Bula block will expire in 2019

17.   Seram Non Bula block will expire in 2019

As for Block Mahakam, Acting Director General for Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmadja said that the government is waiting for proposal from Pertamina. The Mahakam block is operated by Total E&P Indonesia with non operating partner Inpex Corp of Japan.(*)
