Rambu Energy Pathway to Indonesia’s energy and energy related industries
JAKARTA (rambuenergy.com) – Joint Operating Body (JOB) Pertamina-Talisman Jambi Merang, joint venture between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and Talisman Energy Inc established in 1989, has signed an agreement with a regional government company Perusahaan Daerah Pertambangan & Energi (PDPDE), to supply 0.01 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) of gas to gas engine power plant PLTMG Purwodadi in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi in Sumatera Island.
The gas is initially supplied to start up the power plant. The gas supply will gradually increase to 5 MMSCFD that will be able to generate 8 megawatt hour (MW) power capacity. The presence of the gas engine power plant will help supply electricity to some parts of Tanjung Jabung Barat, which had yet to get electricity.
The Jambi Merang Block consists of 2 fields, Sungai Kenawang and Pulai Gading.
The supply of gas was a follow-up of a seller appointment letter (SAL) signed by the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business (SKK Migas) Chairman Amien Sunaryadi on Nov. 27, 2014.
Four subdistricts of Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency have yet to get electricity, namely Tebing Tinggi, Renah Mendalo, Seberang Kota and Kuala Betara. PLTG Purwodadi is also projected to supply electricity to people in Tebing Tinggi, Tungkal Ulu, Batang Asam, Merlung, Renah Mendalo, Muara Papalik areas.
SKK Migas said the supply of gas to the power plant is part of the government’s efforts to increase utilization of gas by domestic market. At present, domestic utilization of natural gas has reached 54 percent of total natural gas production. In 2015, the government aims to increase domestic gas utilization to 61 percent. (*)
