Sudirman Said, Indonesia’s new Energy and Mineral Resources Minister?

JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – The Energy and Mineral Resources Minister post is one of the hot posts that business players and public in general are waiting for. Over the past few months several names have been speculated by media. The latest name who is tipped to hold the position is Sudirman Said, current president director of state owned military equipment producer PT Pindad.

Sudirman Said is expected to be summoned by President Joko Widodo this afternoon. “That’s true. I was invited (by the President) to come to the State Palace at 14.30 p.m,” Sudirman Said was quoted by detik.com as saying.

Sudirman Said has held various executive positions in various companies previously, including Deputy President Director of PT Petrosea Tbk, Group Chief of Human Capital and Corporate Services of PT Indika Energy Tbk, Director for Human Capital of Petrosea (2009-2010), Executive Director Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in 2013.

In 2005, Sudirman Said held position as Deputy Chief of the Aceh Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (BRR) Agency, assisting Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, former BRR Chairman and the Presidential Working Unit for Supervision and Management of Development (UKP4).

Sudirman Said is known to be a confidante of Kuntoro Mangkusubroto. He was corporate secretary of state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, when Kuntoro Mankusubroto held position as the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister.

Sudirman Said obtained his MBA degree from George Washington.

Other candidates of the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister speculated in the media are Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, PGN President Director Hendi Prio Santoso, oil and gas observer Kurtubi, PLN president director Nur Pamudji, Chairman of Mineral Business Association (Apemindo)Poltak Sitanggang, Wibowo Suseno Wirjawan (President Director of PT Benakat Petroleum Tbk and younger brother of former Trade Miniser Gita Wirjawan), former Pertamina President Karen Agustiawan and former head of SKKMigas R.
