PLN targets to add 3 million new customers per annum

JAKARTA (Rambu Energy) – State utility firm PT PLN said it targets to add 3 million new electricity connection to households per year as a move to increase Indonesia’s electricity ratio.

As of December 2013, electricity ratio in Indonesia has reached 80.51 percent, increased by 13 percent in the last three years. This means around 20 percent of Indonesian households have yet to enjoy electricity.

PLN said in a statement that in 2013, electricity consumption has reached 876 kWh per capita and is expected to rise to 1,300 kWh per capita in 2020.

“Therefore, it needs infrastructure to support electricity consumption growth of 7-8 percent and electricity demand growth of 9 percent pr year or an increase of 5,000 megawatts (MW) per year,” PLN said.

PLN spends around Rp50 trillion per annum to develop the country’s power sector, but it cannot go alone. To support the development of power sector in the country, PLN called on private sectors to take part. (*)
